Saab Key Replacement
Losing your car keys or lost could be very frustrating. It is easy and cheap to purchase a new car key if you own an extra key.

Saab owners should have a spare key as it's much simpler to replace keys lost or stolen. If you've lost your only key, it's a different story as it's quite costly to purchase a new one and requires the dealer to install and program a brand new TWICE module (Column Integration Module on older automobiles) and also a brand-new key that is OEM (not from Amazon or eBay).
If your remote control keys are not locking or unlocking the car, there are many possible reasons. Most likely is the battery for the coin on the key fob but it could be caused by damaged buttons, water damage, signal interference and issues with the receiver module.
If you've checked these but the issue persists, you can try to resolve it yourself by changing the code in the key. This is done by changing (in reverse Hex) the number count to zero in the ECU. You'll need to open the case of the key fob to accomplish this. This can be accomplished by removing your emergency key from the fob. Once this is done you can use a screwdriver with a flat head to open the case and expose the battery. Be careful when doing this and avoid pouring or dropping any liquids in the fob as they can damage the electronic components within.
Broken Keys

Since 1995 in 1995, every Saab is required to have an immobilizer on the vehicle. This makes it nearly impossible to steal a vehicle without a unique key. The dealer must replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) according to the model, and the key itself. Additionally, it will need to be programmed to work with the new module. The key that is claimed to be new from the aftermarket is typically not properly programmed and cannot be programmed correctly when you require of them.
It is not uncommon to find the battery inside the key fob to get worn out after a few years of use, particularly when it is used frequently for locking and unlocking the car. Fortunately that replacing the battery in the majority of SAAB 9-3 key fob models is simple and does not require any special tools.
